You'll likely need at least two devices, one for you and one for the other person you want to communicate with. as they communicate with each other to relay messages
These boards don't have built in GPS you'll have to add it later or it can use your phones GPS if connected through bluetooth.
Distance is usually line of sight, these don't broadcast a strong signal but allow you to use the 915mhz band so you won't need a ham radio license and it allows for longer battery life.
There is mountains of documentation and YouTube videos on these so if you're having trouble with them (as well as tips for greater distances and other add ons) be ready to learn.
Please be confident in your use of them and how they work before relying on them for comms. They work and are a powerful tool when used correctly but are NOT a replacement for a mpu5.
